Wow! Mansfield's Own Jenni Barber Lit Up the Tony Awards Stage
Jenni Barber, who graduated from Mansfield Christian School, and then graduated from the University of Michigan in 2005, was cast in February of this year, in one of the lead rolls of "Wicked". Barber, portrays Glinda, the good witch daily, on Broadway, but was able to have her star shine for a national televison audience, Sunday (June 8th) during the CBS Tony Awards Broadcast.
Back in 1994, Jenni played Annie, at the Renaissance Theater in Mansfield. I (Rusty Cates) was cast as Bert Healey, the 1930's radio host. My long time friend, Dalton Derr, was Daddy Warbucks. What a terrific show that was! I have great memories of Jenni as a young actress in Mansfield.
Aside from Wicked, Jenni has also appeared in Broadway productions of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Performers, Annie and The Nance. Barber has hosted the children's television series "The Electric Company" since 2009, and guest-starred in TV's Smash.
